100 Secret Rock Albums of the 80s

I've got to say I'm Impressed by Woebot's 80s list. There are 10 artists I've never even heard of. Of the 33 records he specially recommends I only own 9. There is one worry in the Goth category, that's Sisters Of Mercy's Floodland. Is that a joke? Then there is Thin White Rope's Moonhead which is in the highly recommended category. This is an LP I expected to love when I heard it, maybe 3 years after it was released and was shocked that I couldn't stand it. I must admit I've recently thought I should give it another go. Hey Woebot how secret can a Police LP be? Is this in the hiding in plain sight category. Hey Man Without Shame Rapeman's Two Nuns And A Pack Mule gets a recommend. Is it becoming a cult internet record all of a sudden? It's had 2 mentions in 1 week!

Here's the unknown 10 (well as it turns out only 5 are unknown artists).

??? Just saw this was produced by Philip Glass!

Turns out this is Charles Hayward's post This Heat
project. Who knew?  Gotta check this out.

Turns out this is Gil Trythall who I do know and actually
own a few of his records including the title track of this
LP which I think was recorded in 1973.
Bill Laswell & Rammellzee. Bootsy on da bass on
one track.
This is a Bill Laswell project with Manu Djbango
amongst others.
Electronic Canadians apparently.
French bloke.
Arthur Russell plays cello on this and Pete was the
trombone man on many of Russell's trax.
Disco dude.
I wanna hear this one

Woebot

Funnily enough I was looking through some old emails and came across this last nite.

Which I barely recall coming out but it was an answer to my question on my blog from sometime last year. What happened to the Woebot archives? Where can I access them? So he'd taken down his blog only to later on sell it in electronic form. Sure it's only $10 so who cares? Anywho last night I was downloading a kindle app so I could read that and this

Then this email turns up today from woebot with another list. This time it's the 100 Secret Albums from the 80s which can be found here

Hawkwind/Rave...it's all connected right?

What can I say?
Stumbled upon this last night on the Youtubes  Hawkwind doco ! Dodgy old VHS tape made it even better I reckon. Heaps of stuff I didn't know, pretty bloody good. What a trip they had- Drugs, guns, grenades, naked dancers, roller skates, mental illness, links with terrorism, a million ex members, regular sackings, sabotaging their own career and everything else in between. Didn't one of the Chrome guys join them once?, there was no mention of that. Just to mention everyone who went through the band would have taken up half the film. Who knew Samantha Fox guested with them once?! Ofcourse it made me dig out some Ye Olde Hawkwind to put on my ipod. How has Lemmy, who was in good spirits in the film, not got lung cancer? He's chain smoking in every interview I've ever seen him do. I guess he's up there with Keef in that regard. They're so hard. Apart from my Roxy Music fest I've also been diggin' this mixtape Slave To The Rave from Woebot. Which is an old school Rave mix and it's awesome. I missed this one a while back so it was a good find. Good gear up there with his others Brick Door Mix, Ambient Jungle Mix and Dr Wo Mix. Check Woebot at Soundcloud for these. I guess I got to that from listening to some New Skool Rave or is that nu skool rave or is it new old skool? I'm confused! ie. Skrillex's Bangarang EP, which has got some great stuff on there, almost as good as that Rustie LP from last year (midlife crisis or just awesome bangin' tunes?). I couldn't care less if this is cool or whatever. I like it! I guess I got to that by listening to this other Old Skool Mix 91 from Dara-blog to the old skool, this could be the best old school mix I've ever heard, (er..google that one) which is a fuckn' mental mix of Rave Trax from well 1991. I think the times we are in now culturally are perhaps akin the the Australian Aborigine concept of time, which if memory serves translates to something like 'everything is happening now.' IE. past, present and future are all happening at once! (feel free to let me know if I have that wrong)

This sounds awesome

So Long Turkish Psychedelic Music Blog!

One of the great Turkish
Psychedelic outfits.

Hey Ladies.

Some of my favourite blogs have been disappearing for a while now and another one has just bitten the dust, Turkish Psychedelic Music. This was an incredible resource of its namesake. This music is not easy to find in Australia. There was so much good stuff on there i didn't download. Will this music ever be accessible again? I can hardly see a rush of Turkish reissues forthcoming although I do have a few. A lot of the content from this blog though was scratchy old vinyl nobody was ever gonna reissue.

Glowing Raw was another fave who has packed up shop recently along with Holy Warbles and Flashing Light Will Blind Us who have disappeared without trace. Woebot disappearing (a while ago now) was the weirdest. He didn't have illegal downloads so why didn't he just leave his discontinued blog up there? It was one of THE Great blogs! Was he embarrassed by his old content? If anyone knows how to find the Woebot archives let me know.
